Volunteer

We’re looking for passionate volunteers to help us keep the magic of live performances alive. Whether you’re into ushering, bartending, being backstage, or just want to lend a hand, we’d love to have you on our team. No experience? No problem! We’ll provide all the training you need. Plus you’ll get to be part of a vibrant community that supports the arts and preserves our historic gem. Check below for various volunteer opportunities.

Front of House

Ushers/Front of House – Help patrons find their seats, scan tickets, work the Will-Call table, help run merchandise tables for outside organizations (like bands).

Box Office – During events and thoughout the week, answer the phone, sell tickets, answer emails. Our first connection point with the public, working the box office is one of our most important volunteer positions.

Concessions – Make popcorn, sell concessions, take cash and make sure the concession stands stay clean and organized. You’ll have to get your food handling license for this position; The Dixon will reimburse you for the cost of that license.

Bar Service – Running one of our bars making mixed drinks and serving other alcohol. You’ll have to get your Bassitt License for this position; The Dixon will reimburse you for the cost of that license.

Box Servers – Take orders and deliver drinks and concessions to the box seat ticket holders.

Backstage

Lights, Sound, and Video – operate the light board and sound board in the tech booth.

Backstage Hand – Work backstage with artists doing whatever is needed. Costume changes, set changes, prop handling, security, etc.

Fly Operator – Work with our stage manager to operate the fly system to bring in theatre drops, as well as changing lights before and after the show.

Spot Operator – Run spotlight, in the spot booth, for productions that require one. Different productions can require anywhere from 1-4 spot operators.

Load-in/Load-out – Backstage work before and after the show. Bring all the show’s equipment into the theatre and put it all back in the truck after the show. You’ll also help the show crew with setup and disassemble their set and equipment.

General Stage Hand – You’ll work backstage with bands, casts, and other event crew to assist them in putting on the production.

General Volunteer Positions

Flyer/Poster Distribution – Assist the staff in putting out promotional materials like flyers, posters, trifolds, stickers, and other print marketing materials.

Fundraising – Help staff to plan and run fundraisers, contact local businesses, attend community events.

Building Maintenance/Upkeep – Help with scheduled cleaning days, building maintenance, and other jobs that help keep the theatre clean, organized, and safe.
